The contraceptive implant (the implant) is a soft rod put under the skin of your arm that stops you getting pregnant.
The implant is a small, soft, plastic rod the size of a matchstick.
It is put under the skin of your upper arm by a doctor or nurse.
The doctor or nurse will make the skin on your arm numb before they put the implant into your arm using a special needle.
The implant stops you getting pregnant for 3 years. After 3 years it must be removed and a new implant can be put in.
Some people have the implant to help with health problems like acne or period problems.
Not everyone with the implant is having sex.
Your doctor or nurse are the best people to help you decide which type of contraception works best for you.
You can get the implant from a sexual health clinic or your GP.
